What’s going on here? The Olympic plan is dead, but a neighborhood is still being demolished with no plan in place for the spaces future or interested developers. A casino, presidential library and entertainment district have all be suggested but none with any money behind it. The Olympic bandwagon allowed a quasi government takeover of the land and now politicians are backing away from any real action on the site. The bid also stirred up a lot of community organizations trying to use guide Olympic money and effort into bettering there own neighborhoods. Even though the Olympics are dead, it may have produced a better effect than the games themselves. An involved urban community with a strong desire to build their neighborhoods. I hope the site on Michael Reese can be the first example of their efforts.
